Helen, I really enjoyed reading your Primer. I just realized I have thrown away the notes I did about your text for the seminar, but I will try to bring some of it back to my memory.
First, I just want to say that I like the idea and the format of your text and I think the context of it was very clear in your presentation. This is what you should add in the text. Give it a clear context in the introduction.
Reading it make me think of Douglas Coupland’s novels. There is something in the tone and style of your writing which connects to his work. I think that in chapter 2 and 3 you really manage to create a dynamic dialogue bringing the theory alive. Theory is put into a pragmatic discussion. Chapter 1 and 4 tend to be more static in the theoretical discussion and maybe it has to do with number of participant in the actual discussion.
Moreover, I like the upfront tone and the absence of clichés. The last chapter , which has the most difficult subject, is not as upfront as the others. I realize it is very difficult to write about affect in an upfront way. If you manage to do that your Primer will be a great teaching tool.
